From Farm to Hopper: How We Trace Every Bean

A bag of coffee usually tells you a country and a roast level. That is not much information about something you are going to drink every day, and it is nowhere near enough to improve.
We buy from 31 farms across Ethiopia, Colombia and Sumatra, and every lot carries an identifier from the point of harvest. That identifier follows the beans through washing, drying, export, roasting and into the hopper. When a machine grinds a dose, it knows which lot it came from.
The reason that matters is not marketing. It is feedback. When customers rate a drink through the app, that rating attaches to a lot, a roast date and an extraction profile. Over time that produces something the industry has never really had: a direct line from a farming decision to a drinker's opinion.
Farms see that data. A producer who changes their fermentation window can find out, within a season, whether drinkers in three countries preferred the result. That is a far shorter feedback loop than the traditional chain of exporter, importer, roaster and retailer allows.
Traceability is often framed as a compliance exercise. Used properly it is a research instrument, and the people it should most benefit are the ones growing the crop.
